When the horrific story broke of a ten-year-old girl who was raped and received an abortion in a separate state, the press fell over themselves to paint the report as evidence of abortion restrictions. It’s a bizarre way to frame a rape. That narrative ignores the criminal involved and more.
It’s even more egregious to ignore the fact this was a rape committed by an undocumented, illegal alien against a child. A source with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) told Fox News that Gerson Fuentes, the man charged with raping a minor, “is a Guatemalan national in the country illegally and that ICE has placed a detainer on Fuentes, which is a request he eventually be handed over to the agency for removal proceedings.”
An official statement by ICE said, “On July 13, officers with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations lodged an immigration detainer on Gerson Fuentes following his arrest by the Columbus, Ohio Police Department for felony rape charges. Fuentes is currently in the custody of local officials at the Franklin County Jail,” an ICE spokesperson said on Thursday. “Fuentes has no previous immigration history.”
Fuentes has confessed to raping the ten-year-old girl at least twice. We don’t know precisely when he illegally arrived in the United States. Local media reports he had lived in Columbus for at least seven years, working at a diner.
The 2014 immigration crisis under Obama.
Going back around seven years, the United States was amidst an immigration crisis under Barack Obama’s administration. In 2014, Vox detailed some of the numbers of the immigration crisis:
During fiscal year 2014 (October 2013-September 2014), 68,541 unaccompanied children were apprehended at the U.S./Mexico border— a 77 percent increase over the previous year.
At the same time, there was a rapid increase in the number of parents arriving with young children. In fact, nearly as many family units (68,445) were apprehended at the border in fiscal year 2014 as unaccompanied children — over three times as many families as were apprehended the previous year.
The surge of people was coming from Central America, with Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala at the center of the influx of illegal immigrants. The problem was so bad that the Obama administration started building the infamous “cages” where they kept detained illegal immigrants.
Migrant surges from Central America started surging in the early 2010s and continued throughout the decade. The years from 2014 forward saw consistent waves to the United States border with Mexico.
Obama’s executive orders to protect illegals.
In response, then-President Obama signed executive orders claiming to crack down on illegal immigration while creating programs like DACA and other ways for illegal immigrants to remain in the United States without fearing deportation. But as we know, the surges continued unabated. President Trump attempted to curtail the issue in his term, but President Biden overruled those orders and exacerbated the problem further.
When you combine Biden’s lax oversight of the ongoing border crisis with progressive prosecutors refusing to prosecute and deport illegal immigrants, you get our current toxic mix of policies.
Given the age of Gerson Fuentes and his age, it seems reasonable to assume he arrived in the United States during the influx and crisis of the Obama years. He’s originally from Guatemala, one of the problem countries of those years. Going back seven years from now places a crossing sometime in 2015 at the latest, with it possible for him to have arrived during the mess preceding the 2014 crisis.
And now, here we are with an illegal immigrant, staying in the United States for the past seven years, at least, raping a child. And the American press wants to paint this as a story of abortion.
A preventable tragedy.
But there’s a starker lesson here: if the United States had a competent immigration policy running this country and we deported those who come here illegally, a ten-year-old girl would not have been raped. If Barak Obama had defended the border and stopped illegal immigration, an undocumented person would not have been free to rape a child in Ohio.
Ohio’s abortion laws are a sideshow. The girl got an abortion. She now has to live with the trauma of being raped multiple times by an illegal immigrant. She also lives in a country where Democrats have no interest in preventing future threats like this one.
It’s a tragic story all-around. But the missing point here is that it was entirely preventable if the United States government had found and deported Gerson Fuentes before he made it to Ohio. It’s a preventable tragedy, and no Democrat will raise their finger to prevent another one like it. They ignored the border crisis under Biden, pretended to care for two minutes while Trump was in office, and now under Biden, they don’t care again.
A girl was very likely raped because Democrats during the Obama administration chose to protect illegal immigrants over American citizens. There’s no sign Democrats will shift their posture, either. That’s a sign that we’ll see more tragedies until these policies get wholly overhauled.
