Donald Trump hits Chris Christie on his weight, low polling numbers

Former President Donald Trump is not holding back in counterattacking his GOP opponents and critics, including former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

Trump slammed Christie, calling his campaign "dead as his stomach band," taking a shot at the former governor's weight while calling out his low polling numbers, The Hill reported.

The former president, even in the face of multiple indictments, with more to possibly come, enjoys a dominating lead in the race for the GOP presidential nomination in virtually all available polling.

He had routinely used his Truth Social platform to torch his Republican opponents, giving them all equal treatment.

Shaking things up

Trump is known for nicknaming his opponents, and has already stuck to calling Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis "Ron DeSanctimonius." In a recent Truth Social post, Trump roasted several of his opponents, including Christie.

"Vivek Ramaswamy is now beating DeSanctimonious,” Trump's Truth Social post read. "Christie dead as his stomach band. ‘Aida’ Hutchinson a solid minus 1%. I’m up 44 points!!! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN."

Ramaswamy, a favorite among Trump supporters, has made significant polling gains in recent weeks.

Notably, Ramaswamy and Trump have launched attacks on one another, with Ramaswamy recently crediting Trump as being a "great president."

Many have speculated that should Trump win the GOP nomination in 2024, Ramaswamy could be on his vice presidential shortlist, though many others, including a list of high-profile female candidates, have also been floated.

Christie responds

While it appears that some GOP candidates are still trying to figure out how they should respond to any current and future attacks launched by Trump, which are usually politically vicious, Christie has fired back at Trump on several occasions.

"Here’s my message to him," Christie told Fox News’s Howard Kurtz.

"I don’t care what he says about me, and I don’t care what he thinks about me. And he should take a look in the mirror every once in a while. Maybe he dropped the weight thing off of his list of criticisms."

No matter what your take on Trump, everyone can honestly agree that the 2024 election cycle will be one for the books. Given Trump's popularity and massive base of support, and his consistently high polling, his opponents, at this point, have a very tough row to hoe if they want a real shot at the nomination.
