45 people shot over the weekend in Lori Lightfoot’s violent Chicago

At least 45 people were shot, including four deaths, from Friday through Sunday in Democratic Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s Chicago, Illinois.

The ongoing violence has led to growing concerns among both residents and tourists who see the city as a war zone.

The details

One “fatal shooting occurred in a parking lot ‘in the West Chatham neighborhood’s 200-block of West 87th Street’ at 3:15 a.m. A 26-year-old man was among a group of people gathered in the lot and he was hit in the chest when gun shots rang out,” Breitbart News reported.

“The 26-year-old was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds,” it added.

The latest developments

A later update to the weekend’s shootings noted 45 shooting incidents that included a total of 54 people shot from 6 p.m. Friday until Sunday midnight.

“Eight people were killed and nearly 50 others were wounded in shootings across Chicago over the weekend,” according to WTTW PBS Chicago.

The shootings are worse in the city that in many entire states over the same period, leading to calls for change in the city’s government.

Nearly 400 people have been killed in shooting deaths in Chicago this year alone, leading to cries for reform.

The city is certainly in need of help to stop violent crime, but it’s uncertain whether Lightfoot’s efforts will help.
