Liberals across America were horrified Wednesday when the Supreme Court appeared receptive to overturning Roe v. Wade while hearing a pivotal abortion case.
The apparent threat to the left’s highest sacrament led a group of protesters to take abortion pills outside the courtroom in a ghoulish display, Fox News reported.
The disturbing scene was reportedly staged by activists from the group Shout Your Abortion, which encourages people to accept abortion as “normal” and an act of liberation, rather than the necessary evil of the “safe, legal, and rare” standard. A video of the protest showed a group of women chanting, “Abortion pills forever!”

While many were repulsed by the spectacle, others found something in it worthy of praise. “Epic action from @ShoutYrAbortion — people took abortion pills outside the Supreme Court!” tweeted feminist writer Erin Matson.
Abortion advocates were met outside the courthouse by pro-life activists, many of whom found the day’s events to be encouraging.
During the hearing, Justice Brett Kavanaugh suggested that the abortion dispute should be left to the American people to decide through their elected officials, while Clarence Thomas asked pointedly where exactly the Constitution provides a right to abortion.
Abortion without limits?
Meanwhile, Democrats appeared to have an ally in liberal justice Sonia Sotomayor, who offered a shrill warning that the Supreme Court would damage itself irrevocably by overturning Roe.
The case concerns a 15-week abortion ban in Mississippi that directly challenges Roe‘s standard, which legalizes abortion before a baby is considered “viable,” around 22 to 24 weeks of pregnancy.
Julie Rikelman of the Center for Reproductive Rights and the Biden administration’s Solicitor General, Elizabeth Prelogar, were tasked with defending Roe‘s viability standard under questioning from skeptical conservative justices, who seemed to view it as arbitrary.
While the left focused their efforts on persuading the Supreme Court to preserve the “viability” line, it appears many on the left believe there should be no limits on abortion. The far-left American Civil Liberties Union shared an image of another protester with a sign calling abortion “rad.”
There won’t be a decision in the case until the summer, CBS News notes. Democrats are eager to capitalize on it ahead of what is shaping up to be a brutal midterm season for the left.
