Actor Devin Ratray, who many of us remember as the bullying-prone big brother from Home Alone, is back in the headlines, but it’s not a good look.
According to the Daily Caller, Ratray, 45, ran into legal trouble in December 2021, when he was arrested for an alleged domestic violence incident — an assault — with his then-girlfriend. It would take the news of that particular incident to spark yet another serious allegation of rape leveled against the actor by another woman.
The rape allegation apparently took the long way around, as a woman named Lisa Smith had filed a report about the alleged sexual assault in 2017.
It was only after the domestic violence charge in 2021 that Smith once again asked authorities what the status was with her original allegation.
The DC added: “When Smith inquired as to why her case hadn’t been pursued, prosecutors reportedly told her that they believed she wanted to remain anonymous and didn’t want to press charges, so closed the case, CNN noted.”
Smith eventually contacted CNN to tell them she felt “devastated” that authorities had clearly not taken her allegations seriously enough to pursue a real investigation.
Eventually, Smith would fly to New York to appear before investigators, even providing the clothes she wore on the night of the alleged rape.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office remained mostly silent on the issue, only telling CNN that they have had contact with Smith about the incident.
Smith said that emails sent to her from the office appeared to show that the investigators had requested phone and text records, and even hinted that they were ready to reach out to a potential witness from the night Smith was allegedly raped.
Smith explained that she and Ratray had been friends for 15 years before the night she claims he raped her.
On that night, the two were reportedly out with other friends. However, on the night of the alleged assault, Smith claims Ratray had handed her a “specific” drink, presumably meaning that Smith believes Ratray drugged her.
“I remember waking up and I couldn’t move. I couldn’t really open my eyes, but I could hear what was happening and I could feel what was happening. I knew that the other two people were gone and I was still on the couch,” Smith said. If true, hopefully Ratray is brought to justice.
