Amber Heard is ‘broke,’ can’t afford pay Johnny Depp: Report

Things might be about to go from bad to worse for Amber Heard.

The New York Post just put out a report in which it cited sources as revealing that Heard does not have the money to pay Johnny Depp.

Heard owes Depp, her ex-husband, $10.4 million after a jury recently ruled in Depp’s favor in the defamation suit that he had brought against Heard. The lawsuit stemmed from a 2018 op-ed in which Heard claimed to be “a public figure representing domestic abuse.”

The six-week trial got ugly, to say the least. All kinds of details were revealed about Heard and Depp’s relationship, which, by all accounts, was not a healthy one. Just last week, the trial came to an end with the jury ruling in Depp’s favor, ordering Heard to pay Depp $10.4 million.

“Broke”

According to the Post’s new report, though, Heard doesn’t have the means to pay Depp.

The outlet reports:

Amber Heard can’t pay the $10.4 million she owes Johnny Depp, her lawyer revealed Thursday — as sources told The Post the actress is “broke” due to hefty legal fees associated with the bombshell defamation trial.

Apparently, it has actually been Heard’s homeowner’s insurance, The Travelers Companies, that has been footing her legal bills. This, according to the Post, is not as unusual as it may seem at first sight.

It’s not just the legal fees, though. The Post goes on to report another source as revealing that another part of the reason why Heard is broke is her “past lavish spending, on travel, clothes, gifts, and wine.”

Looking forward

Assuming that the $10 million judgment stands, the road that lies ahead could be a difficult one for Heard.

The Post reports:

Depp could still potentially claim the money he was awarded by garnishing his ex-wife’s wages from her two upcoming movies, levy her assets, or even seize her house in California’s Yucca Valley, experts told The Post.

The outlet quotes an expert as explaining that Heard “could be subject to this judgment for up to 30 years.” The expert added that “if she suddenly had a new infusion of money — that can be discovered by [Depp] and pursued.”

Whether Depp would pursue this route remains to be seen.
