Another poll has Trump beating Biden in hypothetical 2024 race

Here’s more bad news for President Joe Biden.

Breitbart News reports that yet another poll has former President Donald Trump beating President Joe Biden in a hypothetical 2024 matchup.

The poll comes from Yahoo News/YouGov. The pollster surveyed some 1,541 U.S. adults from June 10 to June 13, asking them, among other things, whether they would vote for Biden or Trump if the 2024 U.S. presidential election were to be held today.

Trump wins

The pollster found that, if the 2024 presidential election were to be held today, then Trump would be likely to win.

The final vote tally was 44% for Trump and 42% for Biden. Admittedly, it is not the biggest margin. In fact, it is within the poll’s margin for error.

But, there are some important points to be made here. For one, this is the first time that Trump has topped Biden in one of these hypothetical polls conducted by Yahoo News/YouGov. To be clear, Trump has topped Biden in many other hypothetical 2024 polls, just not this one, until now.

Another important point, noted by Yahoo News, is that the poll comes as the House Jan. 6 committee has been holding public hearings in order to try to convince the public that Trump was behind a “seditious conspiracy” to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

What the poll thus suggests is that the hearings are not having the effect on the American public that the Democrats were hoping it would. Trump, despite the hearings, is retaining his popularity.

Biden plummeting

In the polls, Biden has been in a free fall for some time now.

Real Clear Politics has Biden’s average approval rating at only 39.8% and his average disapproval rating at 54.7%. This means that, on average, Biden is underwater by 14.9 percentage points. And, things do not seem to be improving.

In fact, at this point, it would be a surprise if Biden even makes it onto the 2024 ballot. Recently, there have been multiple reports, including one from the New York Times, in which a number of high-profile Democrats are arguing that Biden should not run in 2024. Biden, however, maintains that he will run.

If Biden wants to both run and win, clearly a lot has to change between now and 2024. At the moment, it does not look as though he will have the support of either Americans or even many members of his own party.
