Another top VP Harris staffer tenders his resignation

While the news of Elon Musk's "Twitter Files" document dump has deservedly dominated the headlines, news coming out of the White House concerning a resignation is definitely raising eyebrows.

According to Breitbart, Vice President Kamala Harris' office lost yet another prominent staffer due to resignation.

The outlet reported that communications director Jamal Simmons has thrown in the proverbial towel.

The vice president had just hired Simmons in January, and he will end his position in January 2023, which is longer than many other Harris staffers have lasted.

"Steady the ship"

According to an email sent to Harris' staff concerning Simmons' exit, he was described as a person who was initially brought on to "steady the ship."

That was a polite way of describing the absolute turmoil experienced by Harris in her first year in the White House. From damning "toxic workplace" claims to multiple fumbles at home and abroad, Simmons was supposed to help clean it up and bump those poll numbers up.

Unfortunately, Harris' image was not magically fixed by Simmons, a man who might otherwise be tremendously talented at what he does. But even someone of his skill level is no match for the embarrassment generated by Harris' wing of the White House.

Harris can't seem to keep a dedicated, loyal staff on her comms team.

Other departures

The news of Simmons leaving the veep's office came in the wake of other high-profile comms team members for the vice president.

Breitbart noted: "Communications director Ashley Etienne and press secretary Symone Sanders left their jobs in December 2021, and press operations director Peter Velz and deputy director of public engagement Vincent Evans left their positions in January."

Additionally, Harris' former deputy press secretary, Sabrina Singh, high-tailed it out of the White House in March. She was accompanied by Tina Flournoy, Harris' former chief of staff.

Several speechwriters for the vice president have also churned in and out rather quickly. A third writer was hired this year, though Harris' speeches haven't changed much. As previously mentioned, these people are probably quite talented, but there's simply no fixing Harris at this point.

Only time will tell how many more staffers Harris will have to turnover before her term ends.
