Antifa has been planning a nationwide insurrection for months, according to a detailed exclusive report in THe Washington Times.
A law enforcement source told the Times that the far-left organization, which is now taking advantage of anger over the death of George Floyd to push its agenda, has been looking to foment unrest since at least November of last year.
Insurgency planned for months
For days, a mixture of peaceful protests and violent riots have overtaken American cities after George Floyd, an unarmed black man, was killed in the custody of Minneapolis police.
Despite the seemingly organic appearance of widespread rioting, looting, and arson, some say that the violence is anything but spontaneous.
Security officials told The Washington Times that Antifa and related anarchist groups have planned and executed the Floyd riots with a new level of sophistication that belies their reputation as a shadowy group of rag-rag thugs and burnouts. According to a law enforcement source with access to intelligence on the group, Antifa was plotting a nationwide rebellion as far back as November.
Private analysts and Trump officials said that Antifa is now using protests over Floyd’s death to sow chaos in the cities and push a communist agenda, according to the Times.
“Their Marxist ideology seeks not only to influence elections in the short term but to destroy the use of elections as the determining factor in political legitimacy,” said former National Security Council staffer Rich Higgins.
While some public officials — and Antifa — have blamed white supremacists for the recent violence in America’s cities, President Donald Trump and Attorney General Bill Barr have mentioned Antifa members as instigators of the unrest, and the Trump administration is effectively classifying Antifa activity in the riots a form of domestic terrorism.
The renewed focus has brought what is actually a far more organized network than many might have thought under the microscope in recent days. For example, Antifa or Antifa-adjacent activists who participated in New York demonstrations over the past two weeks came from outside the city to incite violence, according to the Times.
The anarchists prepared well in advance by pooling bail money and organizing bike scouts to identify locations with minimal policing, the report stated.
“They prepared to commit property damage and directed people who were following them that this should be done selectively and only in wealthier areas or at high-end stores run by corporate entities,” John Miller, New York’s top terrorism cop, told NBC News.
What is Antifa planning next? Only time will tell.
