AOC targets Biden, Sen. Manchin, and Dem leadership during town hall event

Fox Business reports that far-left Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) just took aim at her own party.

Ocasio-Cortez did so during a speech she gave at a town hall event on Thursday. The speech was caught on camera, and if you have what it takes, you can watch it here:

“I’m mad”

During her speech, Ocasio-Cortez went after Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) for his opposition to two of the Democrats’ major pieces of legislation: President Joe Biden’s “Build Back Better” package and the left’s so-called “For the People Act.”

Ocasio-Cortez also went after Biden, Democratic leadership, and even the media for allowing Manchin to maintain his position.

“I’m mad! I’m mad. People say, ‘Don’t be mad,” Ocasio-Cortez began. “It’s this idea of if we coddle someone’s ego that they’re gonna say ‘yes,’ and, if it hasn’t worked in two years, why are we gonna continue doing that when there’s an election this November? -and, honestly, even sooner because primary elections have already started.”

Ocasio-Cortez continued:

The idea that this one person gets to go on television and provide weak arguments as to why they are blocking the basic civil rights of our Americans, and journalists don’t push back, and our party leadership doesn’t push back, and the president doesn’t push back forcefully – that makes me mad! Because we’re talking about peoples’ citizenship, their personhood under the law is so deeply tied to the right to vote.

“We are stripping one essential function of citizenship because one Democratic senator from West Virginia doesn’t think it’s important enough, and that’s not acceptable,” Ocasio-Cortez added.

This is far from the first time that Ocasio-Cortez has targeted her fellow Democrats. She has been on Manchin’s case ever since he tanked Biden’s Build Back Better package at the end of last year. Manchin did so because he didn’t think, given the circumstances, that it was wise for America to spend another $3.5 trillion.

Manchin has also earned the ire of Ocasio-Cortez for blocking the Democrats’ For the People Act. Manchin, like many Republicans, doesn’t think that the highly-partisan piece of election legislation is the way to go.

Finally, AOC and others have targeted Manchin for standing against their push to eliminate the Senate filibuster rule, which, at the moment, would allow them to force some of this radical legislation through without the need for Republican support.

To see Ocasio-Cortez attack a member of her own party isn’t a great look for the Democrats. But, if you’re Manchin, standing opposed to Ocasio-Cortez is probably a good indication for his voters that he is doing something right.
