Arizona Sen. Kelly faces defeat over his economic decision-making: Report

Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) appears to have landed himself in some political trouble.

Breitbart News just released a report suggesting that there is a connection between a bill that Kelly voted on last year and the extremely high inflation rates that Phoenix, Arizona, is experiencing.

Kelly’s vote

The bill that Kelly voted for is the so-called American Rescue Act. As is the case with so many of the Democrats’ bills, this one has done just the opposite of what its name suggested that it would do.

Numerous economists — even economists who lean left — have made it clear that this bill is one of the major reasons why America has witnessed the high inflation that it has been witnessing for some time now.

Among these economists is Jason Furman, the former chair of the Obama administration’s White House Council of Economic Advisors. Furman has referred to the bill as the “original sin” that set off the inflation that we have been witnessing.

This is the bill for which Kelly voted.

Cause and effect

The second half of Breitbart’s report focuses on the inflation that Phoenix, Arizona, witnessed between April 2021 and April 2022.

During that time period, inflation grew by an astounding 11 percent. It’s one of the top inflation growth rates in the country.

What’s important, though, is that at least some Phoenix voters seem to be making the connection between Arizona Democrats, including Kelly, and the inflation that they have been witnessing.

Here, Breitbart cites a Wall Street Journal report as evidence. The report is aptly titled, “In America’s No. 1 Inflation Hotspot, Democrats Face Restive Voters,” and it quotes one independent voter as saying, “there must be some reason for why it’s happening with this administration and not the last one.”

Looking ahead

The bottom line here is that this could spell bad news for Kelly and other Arizona Democrats. The state of the economy is expected to be a major factor in the upcoming midterm elections, and if voters make a connection between Democrats like Kelly and the poor state of the economy, we could see a lot of Democrats get replaced by Republicans.

This November, Kelly will face off against Republican candidate  Blake Masters, who has the endorsement of former President Donald Trump.
