House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has just been exposed.
Newly-released audio reveals that McCarthy did indeed consider asking former President Donald Trump to resign following the Capitol protests of January 6, 2021, The Hill reports.
This information was first revealed by New York Times reporters Alexander Burns and Jonathan Martin. They published an article providing information about an upcoming book that they authored called This Will Not Pass: Trump, Biden, and the Battle for America’s Future.
After their article was published in the New York Times, McCarthy responded with a statement denying that he had called for Trump’s resignation.
“Totally false and wrong”
McCarthy released his statement Thursday on Twitter.
The New York Times’ reporting on me is totally false and wrong. It comes as no surprise that the corporate media is obsessed with doing everything it can to further a liberal agenda. This promotional book tour is no different. If the reporters were interested in truth why would they ask for comment after the book was printed?
The past year and a half have proven that our country was better off when President Trump was in the White House and rather than address the real issues facing Americans, the corporate media is more concerned with profiting from manufactured political intrigue from politically-motivated sources,” McCarthy continued. “Our country has suffered enough under failed one-party Democrat rule and no amount of media ignorance and bias will stop Americans from delivering a clear message this fall that it is time for change.
Following McCarthy’s statement, Burns and Martin provided audio to MSNBC of McCarthy saying that he is considering telling Trump to resign.
The audio was broadcasted Thursday on MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show. The audio appears to be of a conversation that took place between McCarthy and Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) following the events of January 6, 2021. Cheney asked McCarthy whether he heard anything about Trump resigning.
I’ve a few discussions. My gut tells me no, I’m seriously thinking of having that conversation with him tonight. I haven’t talked to him in a couple of days. From what I know of him, I mean you guys know him too, do you think he’d ever back away? But, what I think I’m going to do, is I’m going to call him. This is what I think, we know it’ll pass the House.
I think there’s a chance it’ll pass the Senate, even when he is gone. And I think there’s a lot of different ramifications for that. Now, I haven’t had a discussion with the DEMs, that if he did resign, with that happen? Now, this is one personal fear I have. I do not want to get into any conversation about Pence pardoning. Again, the only discussion I would have with him is that, I think this will pass. And it will be my recommendation you should resign. I mean, that would be my take. But I don’t think he would take it. But I don’t know.
McCarthy has not responded to the audio. Neither has former President Trump responded to the revelation.
