Barr warns that widespread mail-in voting ‘opens the floodgates to fraud’

Democrats are pushing to make mail-in ballots the norm ahead of November’s election.

Attorney General Bill Barr discussed the topic of voting by mail in a recent interview with Fox News personality Maria Bartiromo, and he made some frightening predictions about the negative consequences that could follow if they get their wish, as Breitbart reported.

Barr sounds the alarm

Many, including President Donald Trump himself, have expressed concerns about mail-in ballots being a potential gateway for widespread election fraud. According to Barr, there is an even broader concern that everyone needs to bear in mind.

“I’m also worried about undermining the public confidence in the integrity of the elections,” the attorney general explained, according to Breitbart.

“The thing we have going for us, especially when there’s intense division in the country, is that we have peaceful transfers of power,” Barr said, adding:

And our way of resolving it is to have an election. But when government, state governments start adopting these practices like mail-in ballots that open the floodgates of potential fraud, then people’s confidence in the outcome of the election is going to be undermined.

America’s top lawyer also indicated his belief that the country could be taken “to a very dark place, if we lose confidence in the outcomes of our elections.”

Barr went on to stress that mail-in voting “absolutely opens the floodgates to fraud,” pointing out that ballots “are delivered into mailboxes. They can be taken out,” he said, according to Breitbart.

The AG further suggested that voting by mail could actually undermine the fundamental right to a secret ballot, stating that “a lot of the states have you signing the outside of the envelope.”

Safeguarding election integrity

Touching on a concern that consumed the nation’s attention during the multi-year Trump–Russia collusion probe, Barr also raised the possibility that moving to a mail-in voting system could make it easier for foreign nations to interfere in the country’s electoral process.

“Right now, a foreign country could print up tens of thousands of counterfeit ballots, and be very hard for us to detect which was the right and which was the wrong ballot,” Barr suggested, adding that mail-in voting can thus “upset and undercut the confidence in the integrity of our elections.”

The White House has disseminated a list of voter fraud cases compiled by the Heritage Foundation, many of which involved the use of mail-in ballots.

Though Democrats are almost certainly going to push alternative vote collection schemes in the coming months due to purported concerns about COVID-19, it is incumbent upon every American to know the true dangers such plans pose to the integrity of our national elections.
