Former host Paula Faris surprises Joy Behar by defending Ted Cruz on ‘The View’

An old face returned to ABC’s The View on Thursday, and the reunion turned out to be less than pleasant.

Former View host Paula Faris left liberal co-host Joy Behar stunned with an unexpected defense of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and his faith.

Faris returns

Since leaving The View, Faris has been hosting a podcast called Journeys of Faith. On the program, she interviews big names in the political arena with a focus on their religious beliefs.

Faris recently interviewed Sen. Cruz, and this is where things got heated as Behar decided to go on a mission to take Cruz down.

“Did you ask Ted Cruz how he reconciles his faith with some of the policies of [President Donald] Trump, like separating children from their parents?” Behar asked, referring to the Trump administration’s former immigration policy.

Here, perhaps, Behar was expecting her old co-host to go right along with her in bashing Cruz. But she could not have been more shocked by what came next.

Faris hits back

Rather than go along with Behar, Faris defended Cruz. “Yes, and he actually stood up to him,” Faris said. “He does not agree with that policy.”

Here, Faris was referring to the fact that Cruz disagrees with President Trump on this immigration policy. Faris followed this statement up with some concrete evidence, namely the bill Cruz introduced to end family separation.

“[Cruz] says, ‘I’m an ally, but there are things that [Trump] says and does that I don’t agree with,'” Faris continued.

Awkward . . .

Here, you might expect a person to admit that they made a mistake, but, of course, that is not what we would expect from Behar and that is not what she did. Rather, all she can do, despite being proved wrong, is say, “Uh-huh, yeah, right.”

A long pause ensued which Faris interrupted to say, “Hi everybody, it is so good to be back.” The awkward moment continued with co-host Whoopi Goldberg saying that the group would welcome viewers back after a commercial break, but, instead, the show came to an end, according to the Washington Examiner.

Not quite the happy reunion that everyone was expecting. Watch:
