Beto O’Rourke confronted by conservative protesters at campaign event

Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke was confronted by conservative protesters as he left a campaign event for his bid to be governor of Texas.

A scene that went viral of the incident showed O’Rourke walking to his car as supporters of Republican Governor Greg Abbott surrounded him, Conservative Brief reported.

Beto chased out of event

In the video, O’Rourke can be seen leaving the event in Rockdale, Texas as a crowd follows him, along with some police officers.

Conservatives on social media mocked O’Rourke, who is widely deplored on the right for his gun control activism.

O’Rourke’s campaign issued a statement addressing the incident.

“What you see in the video is Beto walking to his truck following the event at the end of the evening. He was not injured,” his press secretary Tori Larned said.

Three time’s a charm?

O’Rourke is no stranger to political antics. The Democrat was escorted out of a press conference led by Abbott on the mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, earlier this year, after O’Rourke took advantage of the tragedy to start grandstanding about gun control.

The Democrat famously admitted during his failed 2020 presidential run that Democrats want to confiscate guns, declaring, “hell yes, we’re coming for your AR-15.”

The progressive lost a close election in 2018 to Republican Senator Ted Cruz. But some Democrats apparently believe that three time’s a charm.

Democrats are optimistic that a backlash against abortion restrictions will boost O’Rourke’s chances of unseating Abbott, although polls show that Abbott has a clear advantage in what is thought to be a “red wave” year. A RealClear politics average found that Abbott is leading by six points.

Abbott has made headlines for recently by sending an overflow of illegal immigrants in border communities to Democratic “sanctuary cities” like New York and Washington, D.C.
