Biden admin conducts ‘sneak attack’ on America’s charter school system

While most of America focuses on the war taking place in Ukraine right now, according to Fox News opinion piece writer Deroy Murdock, there’s another war happening within our own borders that will have a tremendous impact on the future of this nation.

Murdock, of course, is speaking about the “war” waged by the Biden administration on America’s charter school system, which has been nothing short of a roaring success in the education realm for the past half-century.

Contrary to Democrats’ false narratives, charter schools across the nation offer high-quality education to children from all brackets and of all races. Going to a charter school drastically improves a child’s chances of graduation, as some 90% of charter school students get a diploma, compared to the roughly 40% rate that public school students achieve.

However, since taking office, President Joe Biden and his administration have made good on promises to hamstring the charter school industry, and it’s ticking off a lot of people.

“Persecuting charters”

Murdock wrote that the Biden administration, under the U.S. Department of Education, has quietly enacted a stringent, ridiculous set of rules and regulations for America’s charter school systems.

The new regs make it overwhelmingly difficult for charter schools to access much-needed funding, in the way of grants, from the federal Charter Schools Program.

“Biden has proposed a brand-new collection of flaming regulatory hoops through which charter schools must leap to score $440 million in grants that Congress recently enacted to launch and nurture such learning centers,” Murdock wrote.

He added: “This is neither a frugal effort to save taxpayer money nor a federalist bid to extricate Uncle Sam from local education. Instead, Team Biden’s new rules seem hand-crafted to torture charter-school managers.”

“Sneak attack”

Biden’s rule changes even drew the ire of left-leaning, Biden-friendly media outlets like The Washington Post, with the outlet calling the regulatory changes a “sneak attack” on charter schools while the world is distracted by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“The proposed rules would add onerous requirements that would be difficult, if not impossible, to meet and would scare off would-be applicants. Those most hurt would be single-site schools and schools led by rural, Black, and Latino educators,” a WaPo editorial from early April read.

As parents gradually take back control of their childrens’ education, the Biden administration would be wise not to keep kicking what has turned out to be a political hornet’s nest.
