Biden administration may declare a state of emergency on abortion

Leftists were outraged last month after the Supreme Court ruled that there is no constitutional right to abortion, and they are demanding that President Joe Biden do something about it.

In a move that will seem sinister to many Americans, the president is reportedly considering whether to declare the situation a state of emergency.

Administration official is skeptical about an emergency declaration

According to Fox News, White House Gender Policy Council Jen Klein is skeptical that an emergency declaration will be sufficient.

“When we looked at the public health emergency, we learned a couple of things,” the network quoted Klein as saying at a White House press briefing on Friday.

“One is that it doesn’t free very many resources,” she explained, noting, “It’s what’s in a public health emergency fund, and there’s very little money, tens of thousands of dollars in it.”

Klein also pointed out that an emergency declaration “doesn’t release a significant amount of legal authority,” adding that the idea does not “seem like a great option.”

That answer isn’t likely to go over well with members of the president’s pro-abortion base, as Fox News has reported that some have been for more extreme measures.

This has included calls to pack the Supreme Court, abolishing the filibuster in order to pass a federal law codifying abortion rights, and setting up abortion facilities on federal property.

Administration pushes back on extreme demands

However, outgoing White House communications director Kate Bedingfield put out a statement this weekend which pushed back on such suggestions.

“Joe Biden’s goal in responding to Dobbs is not to satisfy some activists who have been consistently out of step with the mainstream of the Democratic Party,” Fox News quoted her as saying.

“It’s to deliver help to women who are in danger and assemble a broad-based coalition to defend a woman’s right to choose now, just as he assembled such a coalition to win during the 2020 campaign,” she continued.

Bedingfield concluded by declaring, “The president has been showing his deep outrage as an American and executing his bold plan — which is the product of months of hard work — ever since this decision was handed down.”
