Hunter Biden, son of 2020 hopeful and former Vice President Joe Biden, seems to be struggling to keep his big secret from getting out.
According to a report from the Washington Examiner, Hunter Biden has yet to hand over key financial documents in an Arkansas paternity suit — and now, the woman who says Hunter is her child’s father is calling for him to be held in contempt of court.
According to Fox Business, Hunter Biden is in the midst of a paternity suit brought by Lunden Alexis Roberts, a 28-year-old woman who first claimed last May that Biden was the father of her child. A subsequent DNA test proved that to be true, according to the Examiner.
Now, Roberts is seeking child support for her now-toddler — and that’s where Hunter Biden’s financial records come into play.
In order for the court to determine an appropriate amount for child support, it must know something about the parents’ finances. For this reason, Circuit Judge Don McSpadden has ordered both Roberts and Hunter Biden to turn over the “five most recent paystubs or five previous years of tax returns,” according to the Examiner.
McSpadden later ordered additionally that both parties provide both the court and opposing counsel “ALL financial documents and information showing money or monies they received in the past five years.”
Biden had until last Sunday to comply. Roberts’ lawyers claim that he has not, according to the Examiner.
Contempt of court?
Roberts and her legal team have since filed a motion looking to have Hunter Biden held in contempt of court for failing to comply with the court order.
According to Roberts, Biden, among other things, has yet to turn over his personal tax returns for 2017 and 2018, Arkansas Online reports. Not only that, but it is said to be the third time that Roberts has been forced to file such a motion because Hunter has refused to comply.
“[Hunter Biden] has continued to flaunt the orders of this court by failing to answer discovery, comply with court orders, and provide his financial information,” Roberts’ lawyer, Clint Lancaster, said, according to the Examiner.
What’s the hold-up?
Some have speculated that Hunter’s hesitation may be a result of an attempt to keep secret his overseas business dealings, particularly with China and Ukraine. The Senate is currently investigating some of these relationships themselves, according to Fox News, and Republicans have vowed to get to the truth.
Perhaps this paternity suit will provide a key piece of the puzzle — if Hunter Biden ever hands his records over.
