Progressives and Democrats alike banded together to stand behind former Vice President Joe Biden in his battle against Donald Trump, likely expecting that Biden would repay their loyalty by listening to their requests once elected.
However, as Biden continues to name cabinet members, he’s conspicuously betrayed over progressive heroes such as Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) — two former Democrat candidates that fell on their swords for Biden during the primaries — in favor of Obama administration holdovers.
Letting them down
Breitbart Editor-at-large Joel Pollak pointed out:
President-elect Joe Biden has yet to appoint any prominent supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) to his incoming administration in the month and-a-half since the November 3 presidential election.
The list of his twenty or so hires, both for Senate-confirmed and White House staff roles, includes several long-time aides, many former Obama administration officials, and even one or two “progressives,” such as California Attorney General Xavier Becerra.
But almost all of those named supported Biden in the Democratic Party presidential primary,” Pollack pointed out.
“One rare exception is Rep. Deb Haaland (D-NM), whom Biden named as his choice for Secretary of the Interior this week, and who supported Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA),” Pollack explained. “Pete Buttigieg, whom Biden selected as his pick for Secretary of Transportation, ran against Biden, but dropped out before Super Tuesday to endorse him.”
However, the pattern is obvious. Progressives like Bernie Sanders were forced to fall in line after the primaries, but post-election, Biden continues to snub them in favor of Democrat establishment figures.
Obama administration, take two
Biden has shocked many of his progressive backers by essentially assembling an Obama 2.0 administration as the nation rushes headlong into the new year — and Bernie Sanders supporters aren’t happy about it.
Social justice activist Ben Spielberg pointed out that “I believe the count of Bernie Sanders supporters in the Joe Biden Cabinet thus far is zero.”
In response to news that Biden could nominate moderate GOP figures to cabinet positions, former Biden National Press Secretary Briahna Gray tweeted: “There’s not a single Bernie Sanders supporter in Biden’s administration.”
Sanders himself, longtime hero and unofficial leader of the radical left in Washington D.C. has sounded the alarm on multiple occasions about Biden’s refusal to platform progressive voices in his administration.
Sanders swiped at Biden in an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on Thursday, criticizing Biden’s hiring choices and claiming the Democrat nominee is silencing progressive viewpoints. “Those voices of millions and millions of people deserve representation in the Biden Cabinet,” Sanders groused.
Democrats and progressives swore there could be no greater evil in the world than Donald Trump as president, but now that they’ve gotten their way, they are slowly realizing that Joe Biden isn’t any friendlier to their cause.
