Breitbart News reports that President Joe Biden has called upon gas stations to start lowering their gas prices.
Biden did so on Wednesday during remarks that he gave across the street from the White House at the faux press room that he has been using.
Speaking directly to gas stations, Biden said, “These are not normal times. Bring down the price you are charging at the pump to reflect the cost you are paying for the product.”
“Do it now: Do it today,” he added.
U.S. energy prices have been through the roof for some time now.
Gas, just last week, reached an all-time high of $5.016 per gallon. Currently, it is sitting at a little under $5 per gallon, which is almost $2 per gallon more from where it was a year ago and over $2.50 per gallon more from where it was when Biden took over the U.S. presidency.
Biden has been forced to respond to this issue as poll after poll shows it is one of the issues that Americans care most about heading into the midterm elections.
Besides going after gas stations and gas companies, Biden has called for a suspension of the federal gas tax. It does not appear, though, that the idea is going to get the necessary support from Congress.
Biden’s blame game
Polls also show that Americans are blaming Biden and the Democrats for the high price of gas. Biden, however, refuses to accept any blame. He maintained once again on Wednesday that the Russia-Ukraine conflict is largely to blame for the high gas prices.
“We could have turned a blind eye to Putin’s murderous ways and the price of gas wouldn’t have spiked the way it has,” Biden said. “I believe that would have been wrong. I believed then and believe now the free world had no choice.”
Critics, however, point out that the increase in the price of gas was occurring, under Biden’s leadership, even before the Russia-Ukraine conflict. They argue that, as much as anything, it is the policies of the Biden administration, starting with the cancelation of the Keystone XL pipeline, that have led to the gas prices we are now seeing.
It sure makes a lot more sense than the narrative that Biden is failing to sell to the American people.
