Biden claim Supreme Court is ‘going after’ birth control and gay marriage

Politico caused an outcry among many on the left after it reported last week that the Supreme Court is ready to overturn Roe v. Wade.

One of those to raise alarm is President Joe Biden. In a bizarre move on Wednesday evening, Biden claimed that the nation’s highest court is going to target birth control and same-sex marriage.

President predicts that Supreme Court is about to overturn previous cases

CNN reported that the president made the claim while speaking at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser in Chicago.

“It’s not just the brutality of taking away a woman’s right to her body … but it also, if you read the opinion … basically says there’s no such thing as the right to privacy,” Biden was quoted as saying.

“If that holds … mark my words: They are going to go after the Supreme Court decision on same-sex marriage,” he continued.

The president went on to assert that 1965’s Griswold v. Connecticut may be overturned as well. In that case, the Supreme Court declared that married couples have a right to use birth control.

“As we go forward, you’re going to hear me talking more about what we’ve done and what they’re trying to do,” Biden pledged.

Justice Alito said his opinion shouldn’t “cast doubt on precedents that do not concern abortion”

The leaked draft Supreme Court opinion that Politico published was written by Justice Samuel Alito, who apparently wanted to dissuade concerns that its opinion on abortion was the first step in a larger social agenda.

“We emphasize that our decision concerns the constitutional right to abortion and no other right,” the justice made a point of stressing.

“Nothing in this opinion should be understood to cast doubt on precedents that do not concern abortion,” he went on to insist.

However, Biden seemed intent on amplifying fear for political gain, telling supporters that should Republicans win “win back the House or the Senate, we’ve got a different world.”

“We can’t let this happen, guys,” Biden declared, adding, “And it’s going to be hard. Because inflation is going to scare the living hell out of everybody.”
