Biden lashes out at Republican governors he claims are ‘bullying’ against COVID restrictions

President Joe Biden blasted Republican governors on Thursday with claims that they’re “bullying” school officials and others regarding measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

“Local school officials are trying to keep children safe in a pandemic while the governor picks a fight with them and even threatens their salaries or their job — talk about bullying in schools,” Biden said in the State Dining Room on Thursday, according to the Washington Examiner.

“I promise you, I will have your back,” the president added.

Who’s the bully?

Biden’s accusations of bullying led to a number of strong responses on social media.

“Joe Biden is calling out the “bullying” on COVID mandates while telling federal workers they will be fired if they don’t get the vaccine,” KTTH Radio’s Jason Rantz responded.

“Seems like bullying and intimidation on a much wider scale performed BY HIM,” another user tweeted.

We know who you meant

Though Biden didn’t mention him by name, many believe the remarks were targeted toward Gov. Ron DeSantis, the Republican governor of Florida. DeSantis has previously threatened to withhold funding from schools that oppose his order that bans mask mandates in schools.

As one user wrote, “[T]he Biden plan is government overreach & infringement on our civil liberties. And, @POTUS bullying rhetoric is troubling & unnecessarily divisive. This is not leading well!”

At this point, for many, it feels as if Biden is trying to show even a modicum of leadership after his humiliating, failed U.S. troop withdrawal in Afghanistan that resulted in the loss of American lives. But the way he’s going about it obviously continues to rub millions of Americans the wrong way.
