One sad aspect of today’s culture is that with a large enough platform, you can convince the masses to believe an outright lie if enough prominent people repeat it ad nauseam.
That dynamic appears to be on full display in the Biden administration currently as several key officials and President Joe Biden himself continue to accuse Border Patrol agents of “whipping” Haitian migrants who attempted to illegally cross the border, even though the story has been proven false, as Fox News reported.
When images of horse-mounted Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents driving immigrants back from the border were published by the Associated Press this week, officials and the photographer who took the photos quickly debunked the notion that the long reins in agents’ hands were “whips” being used to hurt Haitian migrants.
Biden moved to ban CBP agents from using horses in their patrols on Thursday, and on Friday he made a statement decrying their actions: “To see people treated like they did, horses barely running over, people being strapped — it’s outrageous,” he said, making a whipping motion with his hand.
“I promise you, those people will pay. There will be an investigation underway now and there will be consequences. There will be consequences.”
“Now that the president of the United States has already said they did wrong, how is an investigator supposed to do a true and honest investigation?” head of the National Border Patrol Council, Brandon Judd, told Fox News. “Because if that investigator finds they did nothing wrong — and they didn’t do anything wrong — but if that investigator finds they didn’t do anything wrong, how is that investigator’s job going to go?
Other agents also reacted to the statement. “Would you go to work and do your best knowing that if you do your boss is going to ‘make you pay’?” one agent told Fox News. “I’m dumbfounded and don’t know what to say.”
“He just started a war”
“I see the administration wants to fry our agents. He just started a war with Border Patrol,” another agent reportedly told Fox.
“Nobody was struck by a rein, not one person was struck by a rein, not one person was run over by those horses. They used the tactics they were trained to use, to do the job [Biden] sent them out to do — these are executive branch employees,” Judd clarified. “He sent them out there to do the job, and now he’s criticizing them because his base wants them to.”
Since Biden, by now, knows the border agents are not guilty of what he and other Democrats are claiming, his handlers must have another reason for continuing the outright false and disgusting narrative.
If Democrats can spin the narrative to show that illegal immigrants are being mistreated by American agents, it stands to reason that it might distract voters from the fact that over a million of them have entered the country illegally since Biden took office.
It could also give an angry American public a new topic at which they can direct their anger after Biden’s many failures this year, which would presumably be a welcomed development for Biden and Democrats in general.
