Biden demands Putin’s removal during Warsaw speech

President Joe Biden called for the removal of Russian President Vladimir Putin during a speech in Warsaw, Poland on Saturday, although it wasn’t clear whether his comments were part of the speech as written or whether they were ad-libbed.

“For God’s sake, this man cannot remain in power,” Biden declared with emotion at the conclusion of his speech. “God bless you all and may God defend our freedom.”

Biden was disdainful of Putin throughout the speech, calling his Ukraine invasion a “strategic failure” and Putin “not much of a student of history” for thinking that the Ukrainians would not fight back strongly.

He said the battle against Russia would be a “long fight” and urged Europe to stay united.

Putin’s lies

Biden also called out Putin for lying about whether he would invade Ukraine and his reasons for taking military action.

“Putin has the gall to say he’s denazifying Ukraine,” he said. “It’s a lie. It’s just cynical. He knows that. And it’s also obscene.”

“Putin has the audacity, like all our autocrats before him, to believe that might will make right,” he continued.

He celebrated the success of sanctions that have led to global companies like Mcdonald’s and BP ending their business dealings in Russia, saying that the ruble has been “reduced to rubble.”

“We stand with you”

“We stand with you. Period,” Biden said, addressing the Ukrainian people.

Biden even threatened Putin with military action if he encroached onto NATO territory, noting that American soldiers had been sent to Eastern Europe not to fight in Ukraine but to bolster NATO’s defenses.

“It’s Vladimir Putin who is to blame,” Biden said. “Don’t even think about moving onto one single inch of NATO territory. We have a sacred obligation under Article 5 to defend each and every inch of NATO territory.”

I guess even a broken clock has to be right for a minute, twice a day.
