Disappointment was written all over President Joe Biden’s face Wednesday morning as Democrats internalized crushing election losses that lifted the hopes of conservatives demoralized by the unrelenting radicalism of the Biden era.
According to the New York Post, in a stunning upset, voters delivered a thundering rebuke Tuesday evening of critical race theory and the left’s woke agenda in Virginia, a state Biden carried by 10 points just a year ago, as Republican governor-elect Glenn Youngkin defeated Democrat Terry McAuliffe.
It wasn’t the night Democrats were hoping for, to put it lightly, as Biden’s dejected expression suggested upon his return from Europe early Wednesday.
Earlier Tuesday, Biden acknowledged that the course of his presidency “will be determined by what happens in the next week,” and Kamala Harris had similarly warned that “what happens in Virginia will in large part determine what happens in 2022, 2024 and on.”
Despite support from Biden, Harris, and former President Barack Obama, McAuliffe was left to concede a humiliating defeat Wednesday morning.
Youngkin soared to victory with a campaign that brought together a coalition of Trump supporters, and suburbanites, and was targeted to the concerns of parents angered by far-left indoctrination in schools.
The Republican kept a distance from President Donald Trump, but he leaned aggressively into culture war issues such as critical race theory that had been dismissed by Obama and liberal cable news pundits as “fake outrage.”
But the outrage was very, very real, as MSNBC and CNN anchors were dismayed to discover as the evening played out. Republicans scored a total blowout, winning every statewide race in Virginia and flipping the Virginia House of Delegates, WSET noted.
A close governors’ race in New Jersey, a state Biden won by 16 points last year, hinted at a nationwide backlash against Democrats only 10 months into the Biden era, and left Dems in a state of peril ahead of next year’s midterm elections.
New Jersey’s Democratic incumbent governor, Phil Murphy, was still fighting for survival Wednesday afternoon against Republican Jack Ciattarelli.
But cable news coverage overnight suggested that liberals were not in the mood to learn any lessons as panicked talking heads lashed out at parents, and continued to gaslight the nation about critical race theory.
Encapsulating the deranged mood of unbelief on cable, Nicolle Wallace claimed that critical race theory “isn’t real” and foamed over Youngkin, a “Trump-insurrection-endorsed Republican,” as Joy Reid concluded that “white parents” and Republicans are “dangerous” to national security.
