President Joe Biden is, once again, attempting to use a tragedy to take away Americans’ Second Amendment rights, Fox News reports.
This time, the president is using the shooting that took place at Club Q on Saturday.
Background
Club Q is an LGBTQ nightclub located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Late on Saturday evening, just before midnight, a shooting broke out at the nightclub that would result in the death of five people and the injury of 18 others.
The shooter was reportedly “subdued” by Club Q patrons, which is what put an end to the attack. This individual has been identified as 22-year-old Anderson lee Aldrich. He is reported to have carried out the attack with “a long rifle.”
Currently, Aldrich is in police custody.
At the time of this writing, no motive for the shooting has been released. Many suspect, given the fact that Club Q is an LGBTQ nightclub, that this may have been a hate crime, although this has yet to be confirmed.
While the police are trying to figure that out, President Biden is now trying to politically capitalize off of this tragedy, as he has done with other tragedies in the past.
“We must do more”
On Sunday, Biden released a statement calling for “an assault weapons ban” in response to the nightclub shooting.
“Today, yet another community in America has been torn apart by gun violence. More families left with an empty chair at the table and hole in their lives that cannot be filled. When will we decide we’ve had enough?” Biden asked.
He continued:
We must address the public health epidemic of gun violence in all of its forms. Earlier this year, I signed the most significant gun safety law in nearly three decades, in addition to taking other historic actions. But we must do more. We need to enact an assault weapons ban to get weapons of war off America’s streets.
It is another clear attempt by Biden and the Democrats to use the emotional response to a tragedy to pass a firearm ban that is illogical. The previous attempt came not too long ago, following the University of Virginia shooting.
It’s a disturbing strategy, but Biden and the Democrats have repeatedly proven that they will do whatever it takes to get what they want, including trying to capitalize on post-tragedy emotions.
