Former U.S. Navy SEAL Robert O’Neill gained national prominence after it was revealed that he was the SEAL who ended the life of al-Qaida mastermind Osama bin Laden during a Pakistan raid in 2011.
As The Daily Wire reported, O’Neill recently weighed in on President Joe Biden’s failed U.S. troop withdrawal from Afghanistan that has left thousands of Americans stranded behind enemy lines, and according to his assessment, it’s grounds for impeachment.
The former SEAL made his remarks on Friday during an interview with Fox News’ Prime Time, voicing harsh words for how the Biden administration has mishandled the situation, so far.
Debacle is “insulting”
“This is nonsense,” O’Neill said. “It’s insulting. Every veteran, Marine, Airman, and Navy SEAL, Coast Guardsmen, everyone I’ve talked to today, all they tell me is they feel gross.”
The U.S. Navy veteran said he was “amazed that there hasn’t been at least 30 generals and admirals that haven’t resigned or been fired today.”
“We were pretty good for the past four and a half years at impeaching a president for no reason,” O’Neill continued, referring to the two Democrat-lead efforts at removing former President Donald Trump through impeachment.
“We crush them”
O’Neill added: “If anything deserves an impeachment, it’s right now, because we don’t do this. We don’t ask the enemy for permission. We go in there. We crush them. We win every single time, and then we leave with our people.”
“It’s infuriating that I have to talk to my combat veteran friends that fought for so many years, and they’re wondering why, why do we fight?” O’Neill said.
“This president surrendered to the Taliban. Does it get any more embarrassing? Should I not be embarrassed as an American right now, wondering what I fought for?”
“Dereliction of duty”
O’Neill isn’t the only one talking about impeachment, as South Carolina Sen. Lindsay Graham (R) raised the prospect in an interview last week, Fox News reported.
“If we leave any Americans behind—if we leave thousands of those Afghans who fought along our side behind bravely—Joe Biden deserves to be impeached for a higher crime and misdemeanor of dereliction of duty,” Graham told Fox & Friends.
“If we leave one American behind. If we don’t get all those Afghans who stepped up to the plate to help us out then Joe Biden, in my view, has committed a high crime and misdemeanor under the Constitution and should be impeached,” the Republican senator added.
