Biden in ‘off-the-record’ press briefing scolds reporters for their coverage of his administration

According to Politico’s West Wing Playbook, during a recent trip aboard Air Force One, President Joe Biden made a rare appearance in the plane’s press section to have an “off-the-record” talk with reporters.

Biden, though, didn’t go there to answer questions. No. Instead, Politico reports that Biden went there to scold the press for its coverage of his administration.

For this report, the outlet cited “multiple people familiar with the off-the-record session.”

“Biden’s message”

According to Politico, Biden’s “off-the-record” talk with reporters took place “during a recent trip to the West Coast.” It was during the trip that he took to California for the Summit of the Americas.

The outlet reports:

But Biden wasn’t just there to field questions. He had his own message to deliver. According to multiple people familiar with the off-the-record session, he used much of his time with reporters to criticize the quality and tenor of press coverage of his administration.

What specific press coverage is Biden upset about?

Here’s what Politico writes:

There is growing frustration by the president and his family that he is not receiving the kind of generally more positive coverage they believe he deserves — that too often attention is focused on staff turnover and poor poll numbers and not a robust jobs market and America’s relatively strong economic recovery.

In other words, the mainstream media, which is often thought of as the Democrats’ propaganda wing, isn’t, in the eyes of Biden, doing a good enough job of creating leftwing propaganda.

Background

Biden and his administration have been getting hammered in news coverage recently and for good reason – the country is in bad shape and the polls indicate that Americans are not happy.

Biden, in fact, recently managed to reach his lowest average approval rating yet, which, according to Real Clear Politics, is a dismal 39.7%. On average, 55% are not happy with the job that Biden is doing as president, which puts his approval rating underwater by a staggering 15.3 percentage points.

Polls have consistently demonstrated that the number one reason why Biden is doing so badly is the economic crisis that continues to take place under his watch. Biden and his team have launched a campaign over the past week to change Americans’ opinion on the economy by claiming that it is “great.” It’s a hard sell considering that Americans are having to empty their wallets every time they go to the grocery store or the gas pump.

Biden’s “off-the-record” scolding of reporters is a clear attempt to try to recruit reporters for his propaganda campaign. We’ll see if the mainstream media falls in line.
