Republicans have warned that the Democrats, contrary to what they claim, are looking to target more than just “assault rifles” with their gun control push. A new revelation proves it.
Breitbart News reports that President Joe Biden just made comments that would suggest that he wants to include 9mm bullets in gun control legislation.
“High caliber weapons”
Biden’s latest gun control comments came on Memorial Day. They followed a trip that he made to the site of the recent Texas school shooting, which left 19 children and two teachers dead.
Upon returning to the White House, Biden made remarks, and, in these remarks, he clearly included 9mm bullets among “high-caliber weapons” that he would like to see outlawed.
“They said a .22-caliber bullet will lodge in the lung, and we can probably get it out — may be able to get it and save the life. A 9mm bullet blows the lung out of the body,” Biden said. “So, the idea of these high-caliber weapons is, uh, there’s simply no rational basis for it in terms of self-protection, hunting.”
Biden, then, took aim at the Second Amendment, saying, “remember, the Constitution was never absolute. You couldn’t buy a cannon when the Second Amendment was passed. You couldn’t go out and purchase a lot of weaponry.”
It’s not the first time
As Breitbart News points out, this is not the first time that Biden indicated that he would like to stop the sale of 9mm bullets. In fact, it’s not even the second time.
To provide one example, Biden made the same argument during a CNN Town Hall that was held last July.
“The idea you need a weapon that can have the ability to fire 20, 30, 40, 50, 120 shots from that weapon, whether it’s a 9mm pistol or whether it’s a rifle, is ridiculous,” Biden said. “I’m continuing to push to eliminate the sale of those things.”
No executive orders coming
Although Biden made it clear that he is firmly behind the Democrats’ current gun control push, he stated on Monday that he will not try to enact certain gun control measures via executive order.
“I can’t dictate this stuff,” Biden said. “I can do the things I’ve done and any executive action I can take, I’ll continue to take. But I can’t outlaw a weapon. I can’t change a background check.”
“I can’t do that,” he added.
