Biden White House releases list of ‘accomplishments’ for Thanksgiving Day discussions, are instantly countered and mocked

President Barack Obama’s White House had a habit of publishing talking points that touted various supposed accomplishments for supporters of the administration to share with their right-leaning relatives during Thanksgiving Day gatherings, and that tradition has apparently carried over to President Joe Biden’s White House as well.

The Biden White House released its list of purported accomplishments on Wednesday, but it didn’t go over particularly well and was widely mocked by Republicans and others for being dishonest, disingenuous, and unnecessarily partisan, Fox News reported.

In the end, some House Republicans issued their own counter set of Thanksgiving talking points about President Biden while a decidedly left-leaning media outlet urged fellow liberals and progressives to ignore the White House list and not “ruin” their family gatherings with political talk.

Biden White House encourages partisan political discussions

White House Deputy Communications Director Jennifer Molina tweeted Wednesday morning a list of President Biden’s “top accomplishments” that supporters could reference “for when chatting with your Uncle at Thanksgiving.”

Some of the items on that list were passed legislatively by Congress, either by the Democratic majority alone or with bipartisan support from Republicans, while a few were the result of executive action and still others had, at best, dubious or tenuous connections to the Biden administration. And, of course, no release from the Biden White House would be complete without a requisite accusatory partisan attack against “extreme” Republicans, for good measure.

A few of the “accomplishments” sparked swift rebuttals and the addition of context and pertinent facts from Republicans and social media users, such as the claims of “10 million jobs created” or that gas prices had dropped by more than a dollar since June, which neglected to mention that most of those “created” jobs were simply pandemic-shuttered jobs that had returned or that gas prices still remained historically high.

Republicans counter Biden’s talking points

“Using White House talking points to try and gaslight your own family as to the realities of this administration seems like a miserable way to spend Thanksgiving,” Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC) told Fox News. “Under Joe Biden’s so-called leadership, we’re now battling skyrocketing inflation, record levels of illegal immigration, rising violent crime, military recruitment shortages, a fentanyl crisis, a disastrous foreign policy, a wide range of far-left legislation, unsustainable spending and debt, a weakened economy, and a host of other major problems.”

The Center Square reported that in response to those White House talking points in support of President Biden, the House Ways and Means Committee Republicans led by Rep. Kevin Brady (R-TX) issued their own list of facts that Americans could use to counter the items on the pro-Biden list.

Brady’s “cheatsheet” for Thanksgiving Day discussions included the planned hiring of 87,000 new IRS agents to target middle-class earners, how the so-called Inflation Reduction Act won’t actually reduce inflation, how Biden has pushed the economy to the brink of a recession, and how his student loan debt bailout scheme is likely unconstitutional, among other things.

How about we all refrain from discussing politics altogether?

Then there is the left-leaning New York Magazine’s Intelligencer, which lamented how tiresome it had been for liberals and progressives to argue about politics with their families at holiday gatherings during the Trump administration and how many of Biden’s supporters had “turned out to vote for him in 2020 precisely so we wouldn’t have to show up to Thanksgiving with talking points.”

“Also, what’s the point of defending Biden’s accomplishments at the Thanksgiving table this year? The midterms are (mostly) over, and we’re two years out from a presidential election we’re not even totally sure Biden will participate in,” the article concluded. “So for the love of God, please do not show up to Thanksgiving dinner with this list or any other political talking points.”
