President Joe Biden’s border crisis continues to spiral out of control right in front of his eyes.
However, according to the Washington Examiner, the newly-minted president confirmed to reporters this week that he still has no plans to take a trip to the southern U.S. border to get a feel for the reality of what’s happening on the ground.
What did he say?
In preparation for his nationwide victory lap upon the passage of the $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief packaged, called the “American Rescue Plan” by the administration, Biden was quizzed by reporters on whether or not he has plans to visit the border to see what all the hype is about.
His answer was plain and simple, telling reporters “not at the moment.”
Biden’s refusal to get a first-hand look at the dangerous immigration crisis developing on the border comes amid growing calls from Republicans for his administration to acknowledge that it is, in fact, a crisis, and that the White House needs to do something about it before it continues to flame out of control.
A group of House Republicans, including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), took a trip to the border to kick off the week and ultimately reported that the situation is even worse than what’s currently being reported in the media.
“It’s more than a crisis. This is a human heartbreak,” McCarthy said as he spoke with reporters about the current condition on the border.
It gets worse
Not only did a record number of illegal immigrants jump the border in February — to the tune of roughly 100,000, which was a 15-year record — McCarthy dropped the bombshell revelation during his visit to the border that many of the detainees were from countries such as Haiti, Yemen, and Sri Lanka.
The ranking House Republican also revealed that he was made privy to information suggesting that a number of those being detained were on federal watch lists for terrorism, according to The Hill.
“Individuals that they have on the watch list for terrorism are now starting to exploit the southern border,” McCarthy said while suggesting that Biden bite the bullet and admit that some of his early rollbacks of former President Donald Trump’s border policies were a mistake so that the new administration can begin to correct them.
Other unprecedented moves by the new administration, such as putting the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in charge of taking care of the record number of unaccompanied minors pouring across the border and using convention centers to house them served as further proof that Biden’s policies are backfiring in a big way.
Many high-profile Democrats, like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) are denying the reality of the crisis, but Americans deserve better and if Biden wants to hold true to his promise of being transparent, taking a trip to the border would go a long way in proving that he’s taking the issue as seriously as it deserves to be taken.
