Biden physician says his condition improving after COVID diagnosis

Dr. Kevin O’Connor, the physician to President Joe Biden, said Saturday that his medical condition is improving after he tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday.

Biden’s symptoms from the virus include symptoms include a sore throat, rhinorrhea, a loose cough, and body aches. His vital signs are normal and his oxygen saturation is also normal with just room air, O’Connor said.

“The President is responding to therapy as expected. The BA5 variant is particularly transmissible, and he will continue to isolate in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations,” O’Connor said in a statement. “We will continue to monitor him closely during this very common outpatient treatment regimen.”

Biden is receiving the antiviral Paxlovid to treat his symptoms, a treatment recommended for at-risk groups by Dr. Deborah Birx, the former COVID-19 medical team coordinator under former President Donald Trump.

Biden doing well after COVID diagnosis

“His voice remains deep. His pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and temperature remain entirely normal. His oxygen saturation continues to be excellent on room air. His lungs remain clear,” the doctor said about Biden.

The White House released a photo on Thursday after the diagnosis of Biden appearing to work in his office in an attempt to reassure the public that he is doing fine.

Biden was not known to have been infected with COVID-19 from the beginning of the pandemic until now.

First Lady Jill Biden is in Delaware while he isolates, and contact tracing is being done to determine who else might have come into contact with him.

How did he get it?

Officials do not know where Biden contracted the virus; he was in Massachusetts on Wednesday making an appearance.

The health of someone 79 years old with COVID-19 is obviously a concern, and Biden is being closely monitored.

Biden has repeatedly said that he is fully vaccinated and boosted twice, which he will no doubt credit for his ability to recover from the virus.

Vice President Kamala Harris also tested positive for COVID-19 in April.
