Breitbart reports that President Joe Biden is expected to announce new gun control executive orders.
Biden is expected to reveal these orders in a speech that he is scheduled to give on Wednesday. On Tuesday, a preview of the speech was provided by White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki.
Crime is up in cities across the country, which is quickly becoming a problematic issue for Democrats with the 2022 midterm elections right around the corner. After all, it has been the Democrats who have been pushing the anti-police narrative that many argue is, at the very least, a contributing cause of the escalating crime rate.
This, according to Psaki, however, is not how President Biden sees the situation. Rather, for Biden, guns are to blame.
“The President feels a lot — a great deal of the crime we’re seeing is a result of gun violence,” Psaki said. “You can expect he’ll speak to that and his commitment to continuing to address gun violence and gun safety in the country.”
More executive orders incoming
To address this rise in crime, then, Biden is expected to announce new gun control executive orders. Psaki, though, did not provide any insight as to what these executive orders may include.
After failing to get gun control legislation through Congress, Biden, in April, announced a series of gun control executive orders. Recently, the Department of Justice (DOJ) took action on some of these orders.
The DOJ did so by releasing a model red flag law as guidance for states looking to enact a red flag law. Red flag laws allow the state to take guns away from individuals whom either the police or relatives believe are a threat. Biden’s DOJ has also proposed rules on “ghost guns” and AR-pistols with stabilizer braces, again, at the behest of Biden.
Biden, in his speech, is also expected to urge Congress to take legislative action. Previously, the Democrats’ universal background check measure fell through after it could not get enough support in the Senate. Currently, Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) is said to be drawing up an amended version that he hopes will get enough support.
More Democrat Logic
So, that’s part of how Biden will address the rise in crime. But, Biden also has to address the narrative that the Democrats are to blame for the rise. According to Psaki, he will do so by pointing out that violent crime was also on the rise under former President Donald Trump.
“[T]here’s been actually a rise in crime over the last five years, but really the last 18 months,” Psaki said.
As Breitbart reports, though, the first three months of 2021 saw an 18 percent increase in murders over the first three months of 2020. So, it’s pretty clear that the surge is occurring under the Democrats.
