President Joe Biden has faced widespread speculation regarding his cognitive function, spurred on by his penchant for gaffes and misstatements during public remarks.
His critics highlighted another such example during a speech he delivered this week when Biden introduced Vice President Kamala Harris as “President Harris.”
Biden slips up repeatedly
As the Daily Caller explained, the verbal slip-up came during a speech a Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, on Tuesday.
“Last week, President Harris and I stood in the United States Capitol to observe one of those before-and-after moments in American history,” Biden told a crowd in reference to an event commemorating the Jan. 6 riot on Capitol Hill.
Of course, this was far from the first time that Biden mistakenly elevated his vice president’s status. He made a similar misstatement in a speech last month at South Carolina University’s graduation ceremony.
“All kidding aside, of course, President Harris is a proud Howard alum,” he said at the time.
In March, Biden also appeared to be unsure while addressing reporters at the White House, declaring: “Now, when President Harris and I took a virtual tour of a vaccination center in Arizona long ago, one of the nurses on that tour injecting people and giving vaccinations said that each shot was like administering a dose of hope.”
A troubling pattern continues
Critics and fellow Democrats alike have long speculated that Biden is suffering from cognitive decline and could be unfit for the office.
His often confusing and garbled remarks are not limited to referring to Harris as the president.
Even quotes accompanying video news clips are often hard to understand, as evidenced in a recent post by J.M. Rieger of the Washington Post.
BIDEN: “No, I don’t think covid is here to stay. But having covid in the environment here and in the world is probably here to stay. … We’re going to be able to control this. The new normal is not going to be what it is now, it’s going to be better.” pic.twitter.com/lQSfLMy7Mq

The mounting concerns about Biden’s ability to carry out the duties of the presidency have led to efforts by some critics to pressure him into receiving a test of his cognitive function. One such critic, U.S. Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX), has predicted that Biden will resign before the end of his term.
