A Health and Human Services report released on Wednesday revealed the Biden administration released more than 10,000 unaccompanied minor illegal immigrants into the U.S. in June.
The overall number dropped from a whopping 23,000 in May to 15,550 in the Wednesday report. However, the massive change is largely due to the number of children being released to sponsors.
The report also noted the number of unaccompanied minor illegally entering the country has not declined. In June, more than 8,000 were apprehended by Border Patrol.
The Human AND Financial Toll
More than a dozen facilities now operate as intake sites. According to Breitbart News, “HHS estimates the cost to detain a child in Emergency Intake Sites is $775 per day.”
The report added, “In other long-term facilities, they indicate that cost to be approximately $275 per day.
“Based on these estimates and the number of UACs currently in custody, the cost to the American taxpayer stands at nearly $6 million daily.”
These costs are all American taxpayer expenses. Americans are the ones funding the Biden immigration crisis.
Shifting Plans for Migrant Children
The Biden administration has also announced plans to close six emergency housing facilities in Texas and California.
According to CBS News on Wednesday, “HHS plans to officially discontinue emergency housing sites at Lackland Airforce Base in the San Antonio area and a former camp for oil workers in Midland, Texas, on Wednesday. Two other makeshift shelters in Carrizo Springs and Donna, Texas, are scheduled to close on July 19.”
The report added, “Convention centers in San Diego and Long Beach, California, are slated to stop housing unaccompanied children on July 15 and August 2, respectively, the department said.”
It appears the strategy has shifted from keeping children in centralized locations to shifting children from processing centers to sponsors.
Who are these sponsors? According to the CBS report, “Approximately 8,300 children were being housed in HHS’ traditional shelters and foster care programs, which are licensed to care for minors.”
The problem has really ended or even decreased. Instead, it has been moved.
The Biden administration is doing what every kid has done when trying to quickly clean his or her room. Stuff everything in the closet or under the bed and say everything is done.
Except in this case, the issue is not someone’s room. It’s our entire country, as well as the lives of thousands of immigrant children.
The Biden administration is not just changing policy; it’s damaging the lives of millions of people through its reckless immigration moves.
