Joe Biden complains that ‘negative’ reporters have been too hard on him

Conservatives have long insisted that members of the mainstream media exhibit a pronounced left-wing bias in the way they cover politicians.

However, President Joe Biden doesn’t seem to agree with that assessment. According to the Washington Examiner, in a recent series of outbursts, he complained that reporters have been too hard on him, accusing the press corps of being too “negative.”

Washington Examiner White House reporter Naomi Lim covered the phenomenon in a piece published last week.

As Lim wrote, Biden “is increasingly dropping his ‘Uncle Joe’ persona with reporters as pressure mounts on the White House to notch legislative accomplishments before the 2022 midterm elections.”

They “never ask a positive question”

She pointed to an incident earlier this month in which Biden bristled at reporters for asking questions regarding how his order to withdraw American military troops from Afghanistan might impact the nation.

“I want to talk about happy things, man,” Biden shot back. “It’s the holiday weekend. I’m going to celebrate it. There’s great things happening.”

Lim noted that those words followed another confrontation in June that saw Biden accuse journalists of promoting negativity following his meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, as the Washington Examiner previously reported.

“Look, to be a good reporter, you got to be negative,” the Examiner quoted the president as saying, prior to boarding Air Force One. “You got to have a negative view of life, OK? It seems to me, the way you all, you never ask a positive question.”

Is Biden for real?

“I mean, look, guys, I’m going to drive you all crazy because I know you want me to always put a negative thrust on things, particularly in public,” the president added.

Still, Obama-era White House spokesman Eric Schultz brushed off claims that Biden has a bad relationship with the press, telling Lim that he “answers questions from reporters regularly — with respect and admiration for their role.”

Republicans are unlikely to agree with the idea that the media has been too harsh on Biden and his administration, with many saying that reporters have not paid nearly enough attention to Biden’s seemingly declining cognitive abilities.

One of those critics is Fox News host Sean Hannity, who complained in March that the president’s mental struggles were going “underreported.”
