President Joe Biden has a new narrative about inflation that blames Republicans for trying to “stop [him]” from implementing solutions.
Biden spoke at the AFL-CIO union convention Tuesday, a friendly audience for his attempts to spin the issue and deflect blame.
“The problem is Republicans in Congress are doing everything they can to stop my plans to bring down costs on ordinary families,” Biden said. “That’s why my plan is not finished and why the results aren’t finished either. Jobs are back, but prices are still too high.”
“COVID is down, but gas prices are up,” he said. “Our work isn’t done. But here’s the deal. America still has a choice to make. A choice between a government by the few, for the few Or a government for all of us. Democracy for all of us. An economy where all of us have a fair shot and a chance to earn our place in the economy.”
The problem is that Biden’s narrative is completely false. His claims that spending doesn’t have anything to do with inflation have been debunked by economic experts, including some on the left.
His claims that he has reduced the deficit by almost $2 trillion just mean that he hasn’t been able to get any more of his spending plans through Congress since last year’s so-called American Rescue Plan. In 2021 he spent an extra $2 trillion, and since he didn’t spend that much extra again in 2022, he has reduced the deficit by $2 trillion?
Puh-lease. Neither party has any leg to stand on regarding deficit reduction, even before COVID-19, but Biden has taken overspending to new levels in the 18 months since he has taken office.
Biden would have you believe he hasn’t done anything to encourage inflation when many of his policies have done exactly what would cause price increases.
What Biden did
He shut down the Keystone XL pipeline, canceled drilling leases, and said he wanted to replace fossil fuels at any cost. He let hundreds of thousands if not millions of immigrants illegally cross the border, with the U.S. government paying for their shelter and food while they are here being processed. He also provoked the war in Ukraine instead of doing everything in his power to stop it.
The so-called “Putin tax” is still partly on his head due to comments he made and actions he took that encouraged Russian President Vladimir Putin to invade Ukraine.
Biden is just trying to scare people into not voting for Republicans in the midterms because he knows people are really unhappy with him and other Democrats.
I don’t think it’s going to work because most people have come to the conclusion that he has no idea what he’s doing and is making a royal mess of the economy, which was actually in better shape during COVID under former President Donald Trump than it is now.
