Biden shares false claim about AR-15 bullets in call for ban

President Joe Biden claimed that AR-15s fire bullets five times faster than other guns, with gun experts calling out the statement as a clear lie.

Biden shared the information during a speech on Friday to the National Education Association.

The claim

“The speed of the bullet is five times that that comes out of the muzzle of most weapons,” Biden said, according to The Daily Wire.

“Although some mass shooters, including the Uvalde and Buffalo killers from earlier this year, have used AR-15-style rifles, most murders are committed with handguns,” the report added.

The truth

A Field & Stream column published in July listed the five fastest rifle cartridges. The AR-15 is not listed among them.

“Conservative and gun rights publications have repeatedly shot down that claim but it does not seem to have any impact,” Jonathan Turley noted.

“As with Biden’s false claim that certain weapons were banned from private ownership at the ratification of the Second Amendment, the President continues to make the same false claim on velocity speed,” he added.

The concerning misstatements about the AR-15 from the president come as he continues to push for an “assault weapons” ban that many see as an attack on Second Amendment rights.

Biden’s tough words on guns at an education conference might sound good, but the wrong information once again shows that the president isn’t thinking correctly regarding the facts about firearms.
