Biden signs pro-abortion executive order

President Joe Biden just signed another executive order aimed at facilitating abortions, the Associated Press reports

Biden’s first pro-abortion executive order came about a month ago, in early July, after the U.S. Supreme Court overruled Roe v. Wade. This returned the issue of whether or not abortion ought to be legalized to the people and their state legislatures.

The Democrats, despite the fact that abortion remains legal in some two dozen states, have been calling for the codification of Roe into federal law. The problem, however, is that the Democrats don’t have the necessary votes in Congress to make this happen.

This is why Biden, under much pressure from the left, has been trying to address the matter by way of executive action.

The latest

Biden signed the latest pro-abortion executive order on Wednesday.

The details of this order are, reportedly, still being worked out. But, the main idea seems to be to have Medicaid help those seeking abortions to travel to states where this procedure is legal.

The reason that the details are still being worked out is that, according to the Associated Press, “it’s illegal to use federal funding to pay for abortions unless the woman’s life is in danger or the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest.”

The White House is looking to get around this, according to the outlet, by having “the Department of Health and Human Services . . . invite states where abortion remains legal to apply for permission to use Medicaid funds to” provide abortion access to those in states where abortion is illegal.

“Everything in our power”

While signing the order, Biden made a statement on the matter, repeating the false claim that the U.S. Supreme Court took away a woman’s right to have an abortion.

“I believe Roe got it right, and it’s been the law for close to 50 years,” he said. “I commit to the American people that we are doing everything in our power to safeguard access to health care, including the right to choose that women had under Roe v. Wade which was ripped away by this extreme court.”

It’s unlikely that this executive order is going to be enough to satisfy abortion activists.

The Democrats, in part, are campaigning on the promise to take more aggressive federal legislative action, legalizing abortions nationwide, should they obtain more control of Congress.
