Biden’s approval rating tanks among young Americans

The Daily Wire reports that, during his first 14 months as president, Joe Biden’s approval rating among young people has virtually collapsed.

The outlet based this conclusion on a new report from Gallup.

The pollster recently released a report analyzing its poll results from three different phases of Biden’s presidency: January to June 2021; July and August 2021; and September 2021 to March 2022. Altogether the pollster surveyed 14,000 adults.

Here, the focus is on young people’s approval of Biden’s job performance. The term “Young people” includes General Z, which is defined as “born 1997-2004,” and Millennials, “born 1981-1996.”

The big finding

What Gallup has found is that “Joe Biden’s recent job approval ratings . . . have declined far more among younger than older generations of Americans.”

During Biden’s first 14 months in office, his approval has dropped 21 percentage points among members of Generation Z. From January to June 2021, it was 60%; from July to August 2021, it was 53%; and from September 2021 to March 2022, it went down to 39%.

Among Millennials, Biden has experienced a 19 percentage point dropoff in his approval rating. Again, it started at 60% during the first six months, then it went to 50% during July and August 2021, and then it went to 41% during the next six months.

Among older generations, however, it is a different story. Baby boomers, for example, defined as “born 1946-1964,” have only seen a 7 percentage point dropoff. And, traditionalists, “born before 1946,” have not dipped at all in their approval of Biden.

Background

Biden’s approval rating has been reaching record lows in several recent polls.

This includes a CNBC poll that has Biden’s approval at 38% and a Quinnipiac University poll that has Biden’s approval at only 33%.

Accordingly to Real Clear Politics, Biden’s average approval rating is currently at 40.4%, and his average disapproval rating is 52.3%. This puts Biden underwater by, on average, 11.9 percentage points.

Polls have found that several key issues appear to be driving Biden’s approval rating down. The most important issue, though, tends to be the economic crisis that Americans have been witnessing. Other issues include the southern border crisis and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. And, even some polls suggest that Biden has lost support in one of his best areas, the coronavirus pandemic.
