Bill Barr admits conservatives are losing faith in the justice system under Biden

Conservatives have long believed the federal justice system has been weaponized against them, with a 2018 poll showing that only 39% of Republicans trusted the FBI.

Their suspicion has only grown with the election of President Joe Biden, and it was something that former Attorney General Bill Barr recently addressed during an interview with The Federalist.

Barr acknowledged the perception of a politically biased approach to law enforcement, such as when Attorney General Merrick Garland circulated a memo last year warning of the supposed posed by parents at school board meetings.

“Enemies of the republic”

The move was met with outrage by many on the right, and Fox News reported that it prompted Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley to compose a letter of his own in which he accused Garland of attempting to demonize conservatives as being “enemies of the republic.”

“I certainly share your view that threats of violence have no place in this country, but the backdrop of your memo strongly suggests that your concern is not violence, but democratic pushback against critical race theory,” Hawley wrote.

The former attorney general also took issue with the way that Congress has begun behaving like a law enforcement body following the January 6 riot on Capitol Hill.

While Barr conceded that the legislative branch was intended to provide needed oversight, he pointed out how “oversight that’s too intrusive becomes Congress enacting a prosecutorial function.”

However, Barr was quick to caution against Republicans taking the same approach, insisting that the proper response “isn’t tit-for-tat.”

One standard

Rather, he said “the way out of this is to ensure one standard is used for everybody,” stressing, “That’s what I tried to do — use one standard equally for both sides.”

According to Barr, achieving fairness is something that will require Americans “to vote people out of office, including the president.”

Barr went on to claim that political pressure isn’t unique to leftists, as he recalled feeling it himself from GOP members who were dissatisfied with the pace of John Durham’s investigation into the Trump-Russia collusion hoax.

When it came to bringing Democrats to trial, Barr said that he “wasn’t willing to do that without substantial proof that the law had been breached.”
