House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has been extremely critical of President Donald Trump’s response to the coronavirus pandemic. But one Tennessee congresswoman is punching back — hard.
In a tweet on Sunday, Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) said that if Pelosi’s looking for people to blame for wasting time, then she should start with herself.
Pelosi “fiddled,” not Trump
“Nancy Pelosi is accusing Trump of not responding fast enough to the Chinese coronavirus,” Blackburn pointed out. “This is the same person that fiddled around with a sham impeachment that wasted valuable time. You’re not fooling anyone, Nancy.”
Those words came in response to comments that the majority leader made on Sunday to CNN’s Jake Tapper. When Tapper asked if she believed that the president had caused people to die, Pelosi responded, “Yes, I am. I’m saying that.”
“This is such a tragedy. We don’t even know the magnitude of it because we don’t have adequate testing,” she continued. “As the president fiddles, people are dying.”
“The president, his denial at the beginning, was deadly. His delaying of getting equipment to where it — continues his delaying in getting equipment to where it’s needed is deadly,” Pelosi insisted.
“I don’t know what the scientists said to him, when did this president know about this, and what did he know? What did he know and when did he know it?” she asked.
“That’s for an after-action review. But as the president fiddles, people are dying. And we just have to take every precaution.”
Trump: Pelosi a “sick puppy”
Blackburn wasn’t alone in pushing back on Pelosi’s words, as the president himself had some choice words for the House speaker.
In a telephone interview with “Fox & Friends,” Trump accused Pelosi of being “a sick puppy.” “She’s got a lot of problems,” he went on, characterizing what she had to say as “horrible.”
Trump followed that statement up with additional condemnation online, going after how Pelosi had approached the coronavirus stimulus bill.
“Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats delayed the Workers Help/Stimulus Bill by over a week, trying to add real ‘junk’ into the Bill. Got some bad things, having nothing to do with those affected by the Virus, included. Republicans need their votes until we WIN BACK THE HOUSE IN 2020!” he tweeted.
