Throughout his presidential campaign, former Vice President Joe Biden repeatedly voiced support for the Black Lives Matter movement. But that doesn’t mean the organization is ready to cut him any slack.
At least one leader within Black Lives Matter has accused Biden of promoting white supremacy, the Washington Examiner reports. What’s more, the BLM organizer said picking Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) as his running mate won’t provide Biden any cover.
Dr. Melina Abdullah, who leads the Black Lives Matter Los Angeles chapter, made the comments in a rant posted on Instagram last week. “We want to be very clear that as we happily usher out the Trump regime, we will not accept liberal white supremacy in the White House in the form of Joe Biden,” she said, as the Examiner reported.
“Usher in oppressive systems”
Abdullah continued: “It doesn’t matter to me that Kamala Harris is your vice president if you’re using her Black woman body to usher in oppressive systems and oppressive people like Eric Garcetti.”
Garcetti is the mayor of Los Angeles, and Black Lives Matter activists, including Abdullah, are protesting the prospect of him serving in a Biden administration, Newsweek reports.
Abdullah also expressed frustration in her Instagram post over Biden’s insistence that he would not take steps to remove funding from law enforcement.
She complained that the Democratic nominee had “capitalized on our efforts to defund the police, and then tried to condemn the words at the same time,” according to the Daily Wire.
“We know that we had to protest Donald Trump, we had to get Donald Trump out,” Abdullah added. “We have to protest blatant white supremacy, but we have to remember that there’s a lot of liberal white supremacists.”
“We want something for our vote”
A tweet put out by Abdullah’s BLM Los Angeles chapter on Oct. 22 accused both Trump and Biden of being white supremacists. And they aren’t the only ones.
The Daily Wire noted Black Lives Matter executive director Patrisse Cullors was also critical of Biden in an open letter she wrote on behalf of the Black Lives Matter Global Network.
“Black people can neither afford to live through the vitriol of a Trump-like Presidency, nor through the indifference of a Democrat-controlled government that refuses to wrestle with its most egregious and damnable shame,” she wrote, as the Daily Wire reported.
“In short, Black people won this election,” Cullors added. “We want something for our vote.”
