The Washington Examiner reported this week that a Chinese lab manager has been arrested on allegations that he violated COVID safety protocols.

The paper cited a South China Morning Post article as saying that man identified only as Zhang was employed as a regional manager of the Zhengzhou KingMed Clinical Laboratory Center.

Police in the Chinese city of Yuzhou have alleged that Zhang violated provisions of the Law on the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases.

Although the exact behavior which Zhang has been accused of is not known, the Morning Post quoted authorities as saying he committed “acts that caused the spread of the coronavirus or seriously increased the danger of spreading it.”

It also pointed to a statement from KingMed claiming the company “attaches great importance to this incident and is actively cooperating with the authorities on the investigation.”

“[We] urge the public not to manufacture and spread rumors, and not to circulate false information,” KingMed’s statement went on to add.

Sen. Rand Paul accuses Dr. Anthony Fauci of helping cover up COVID’s origin

What role China played in the initial spread of COVID has been a point of discussion recently, with Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul accusing Dr. Anthony Fauci of conspiring to discredit scientists who suggests the virus could have come from the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

“In an email exchange with Dr. [Francis] Collins, you conspire, and I quote here directly from the email, to ‘create a quick and devastating published takedown’ of three prominent epidemiologists from Harvard, Oxford and Stanford,” Fox News quoted Paul as telling Fauci during a hearing on Tuesday.

“Instead of engaging them on the merits, you and Dr. Collins sought to smear them as fringe and take them down, and not in journals in lay press,” the Republican lawmaker continued.

“This is not only antithetical to the scientific method, it’s the epitome of cheap politics, and it’s reprehensible, Dr. Fauci.”

Fauci responded by accusing Paul of “distorting everything about me” and alleging that the senator was partly responsible for death threats that he has received.

Paul latter dismissed such claims in an interview with Fox News host Martha MacCallum, saying, Fauci is “trying to deflect.”

“To say that I’m responsible for death threats on him would be equivalent to myself or Steve Scalise saying that the Bernie Sanders supporter that shot us, that it was Bernie Sanders’ responsibility,” Paul stated.
