California GOP congressman’s wife died; cause of death revealed

Lori McClintock, the wife of Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA) died in December, with a report revealing her death was due to ingesting a white mulberry leaf as a herbal remedy.

The new details came out Wednesday in a shock to many in the public.

The report

“Kaiser Health News reported Wednesday, citing a March 10 report from the Sacramento County coroner newly obtained by the outlet,” Fox News reported.

“The coroner’s report ruled the death an accident and said a ‘partially intact’ white mulberry leaf was found in Lori McClintock’s stomach, though it was not clear if she consumed the herbs via a dietary supplement, by ingesting fresh or dried leaves, or by drinking them in a tea,” it added.

The background

“Tom McClintock, a Republican who represents a district that spans multiple counties in northern and central California, found his 61-year-old wife unresponsive at their Elk Grove, California, home on Dec. 15, 2021, according to the coroner’s report,” CBS News reported.

“He had just returned from Washington, D.C., after voting in Congress the night before,” it added.

The report reveals the potential concerns in the nation’s booming herbal remedies market.

While some options can be helpful, dangers also exist.

The report may also lead to more government scrutiny of the industry to help avoid similar deaths from occurring in the future.
