Capitol Police whistleblower makes revelations about the Jan. 6 Capitol riot

A whistleblower claims that U.S. Capitol Police failed to take appropriate action both before and during the January 6th Capitol riot, Breitbart reports

The whistleblower made the allegations in a 16-page letter that he recently sent to congressional Democrats and Republicans.

The whistleblower’s identity has not been revealed, but Politico reports that he is “a former high-ranking Capitol Police official with knowledge of the department’s response to the Jan. 6 attack.” The outlet also reports that “the whistleblower was a senior official on duty” on the day of the riot.

The allegations

In his letter, the whistleblower claims that Sean Gallagher, the Capitol Police’s acting chief of uniformed operations, and Yogananda Pittman, Capitol Police’s assistant chief of police for protective and intelligence operations, received intelligence in late December that should have caused the department to increase security measures on January 6th, but it didn’t.

What that intelligence report showed, according to the whistleblower, is that a website called “thedonald.win” put up a map of the U.S. Capitol, and, in conjunction with this, users of the site were talking about protesting by confronting members of Congress while carrying guns.

Pittman, in the past, has told Congress that senior officials were told about this intelligence report, but the whistleblower claims that this is a lie. The whistleblower writes in the letter that the intelligence “was never shared with any members of USCP leadership.”

On top of this, the whistleblower alleges that the Capitol Police, under Pittman and Gallagher, failed, given the intelligence, to adequately prepare for January 6th and failed to take appropriate action once the riot commenced.

The whistleblower wrote:

It is my allegation that these two with intent and malice opted to not try and assist the officers and officials, blame others for the failures, and chose to try and use this event for their own personal promotions. This was done not after the even[t] but while officers and officials were still fighting the demonstrators.

The Capitol Police’s response

A Capitol Police spokesperson, following the whistleblower’s allegations, put out a statement saying:

A lot has changed since January 6. Although there is more work to do, many of the problems described in the letter have been addressed.

In addition to this, Politico reports that two law enforcement officials who were in the command center on January 6th have, at least partially, contradicted the whistleblower’s allegations.

Former President Donald Trump just weighed in on the whistleblower’s allegations.

Trump wrote:

What happened to the Capitol would have never happened if the people in charge did their job and looked at the intelligence. They abadoned the officers on the ground, just like Biden abandoned Americans in Afghanistan.
