Tucker Carlson tops cable news ratings despite recent advertiser exits

Tucker Carlson has long been a target of the left’s cancel culture, having been subjected to series of advertiser boycotts and outraged demands that his Fox News show be pulled from the airwaves.

So far, those efforts have not succeeded — and even in the face of yet another advertiser exodus, Carlson’s recent ratings indicate that more Americans are watching his show than any other cable news program, the Washington Examiner reports.

Carlson scores ratings win

According to the Examiner, the most recent figures released by Nielsen Media Research showed that, for the week of June 8-14, an average of more than 4 million viewers tuned in to Carlson’s show every night. This included an average of 680,000 viewers in the highly sought after by advertisers demographic group of adults age 25-54, the Examiner noted.

In comparison, Carlson’s Fox News colleagues Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham — both of whom have also faced the wrath of the left’s outrage mobs and targeted advertiser boycotts — garnered an average of 3.9 million and 3.5 million viewers over that week, respectively.

“FOX News Channel (FNC) continued its dominance as the most-watched network in all of cable across total day and primetime, advancing its winning streak to 23 straight weeks in total day and 21 weeks in a row in primetime among total viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research,” the network said in a press release, according to the Examiner.

The release added: “During breaking news coverage of the nationwide protests sparked by the death of George Floyd, the network also topped the cable competition across both dayparts in total viewers and the younger demographic.”

Speaking truth to power

This is a rather stunning development for Carlson in light of the fact that the left recently mounted a renewed effort to silence him following his incredibly blunt and painfully honest commentary over the past couple of weeks about the Black Lives Matter movement, the “defund the police” efforts, and the general lawlessness that has accompanied the widespread protests across the country.

Forbes reported that Carlson’s commentary, particularly with regard to Black Lives Matter, spurred several major companies to virtue signal to the outrage mob by making a public show of pulling advertisements from Carlson’s program.

Some of the companies that recently announced boycotts of Carlson included ABC and parent company Disney, Papa John’s Pizza, Poshmark, and T-Mobile, among others, as USA Today noted.

Yet, as Forbes reported, this is nothing new for Carlson or Fox News more generally. Rather, it’s the same tired tactic that has been utilized to little or no effect numerous times in the past several years.

Embarrassing backfire

Perhaps the funniest aspect of all of this, aside from Carlson’s increased viewership amid a targeted boycott campaign, is that the left’s efforts aren’t hurting Fox News in a broader sense, either. A network spokesperson confirmed to the Examiner, “All national ads and revenue from Carlson’s show have moved to other programs, and FOX News hasn’t lost any revenue overall.”

This is another hilarious backfire for the progressives, and it just goes to show that their efforts to silence an enemy have only served to ensure that his voice is now heard by even more people than ever before.
