China continues to menace Taiwan following Pelosi visit

Fox News reported that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi departed from Taiwan on Wednesday, wrapping up her controversial visit to the island nation.

During her trip, Pelosi expressed feelings of solidarity with the Taiwanese people. Yet as writer Katie Pavlich recently noted, her words didn’t change the fact that their country remains surrounded.

Pelosi says U.S. and Taiwan should “deepen our economic ties”

In an article published by Townhall this week, Pavlich highlighted a series of tweets that Pelosi put out praising Taiwan and its “democratic values.”

However, Pavlich pointed out that even as the House speaker’s plane took off from Taiwan, China’s military “is still surrounding it.”

Chinese missiles land in waters around Taiwan

Indeed, The New York Times reported that at least 11 Chinese missiles landed in waters to the north, south, and east of Taiwan as part of military exercises that China began immediately after Pelosi’s departure.

That development was in line with a prediction made on Monday by National Security Council coordinator for strategic communications John Kirby.

“China appears to be positioning itself to potentially take further steps in the coming days and, perhaps, over a longer time horizon,” Kirby was quoted by Fox News as saying.

“These potential steps from China could include military provocations such as firing missiles in the Taiwan Strait or around Taiwan,” the Biden administration official went on to add.

What’s more, Fox News also reported that Taiwan was hit with a cyber attack on Tuesday which caused a website devoted to the country’s president to go offline for approximately 20 minutes.

Although the attack’s origin has yet to be verified, China is widely considered to be the most likely culprit.
