According to Deadline, Chris Cuomo, who was just fired from CNN, has announced that he is also leaving his SiriusXM Radio show, Let’s Get After It.
“The way my time ended at CNN was hard,” Cuomo wrote in a Monday statement on his sudden departure. “While I have a thick skin, I also have a family, for whom the past week has been extraordinarily difficult.”
“So, right now, I have to take a step back and focus on what comes next,” Cuomo continued. “That means I will no longer be doing my Sirius XM radio show.”
Following Cuomo’s announcement, SiriusXM announced that Let’s Get After It “will no longer air.”
What’s going on?
As stated at the outset, Cuomo’s decision to leave SiriusXM follows his recent termination from CNN, which came less than a week after the cable news network “indefinitely” suspended the primetime newsman.
CNN released a statement over the weekend, saying:
Chris Cuomo was suspended earlier this week pending further evaluation of new information that came to light about his involvement with his brother’s defense. We retained a respected law firm to conduct the review, and have terminated him, effective immediately. While in the process of that review, additional information has come to light. Despite the termination, we will investigate as appropriate.
CNN was referring to Cuomo’s participation in the defense of his brother, disgraced former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D), who, among other scandals, faced sexual misconduct allegations from multiple accusers.
As of this writing, it’s still unclear what “additional information” led CNN to fire Cuomo, who was the network’s primary ratings-getter in its nightly lineup.
However, reports indicate that Chris Cuomo faces at least one sexual misconduct allegation of his own. The attorney representing Cuomo’s accuser has opined that this may have contributed to Cuomo’s termination.
Following his shocking termination, Cuomo offered the following response:
This is not how I want my time at CNN to end but I have already told you why and how I helped my brother. So let me now say as disappointing as this is, I could not be more proud of the team at Cuomo Prime Time and the work we did as CNN’s #1 show in the most competitive time slot. I owe them all and will miss that group of special people who did really important work.
A new report, according to the New York Post, indicates Cuomo and his attorneys are prepping to file a lawsuit again CNN, asking a court to force CNN to uphold the remainder of his four-year contract.
The Post reports an unnamed insider as reportedly claiming CNN has “no intention of paying [Chris] Cuomo a penny.”
