Chris Wallace leaves Fox News for new streaming gig on CNN+

The Washington Examiner reported Sunday that Chris Wallace is leaving Fox News after 18 years with the network to join its liberal rival, CNN.

It’s a career evolution that many would say is fitting for the left-leaning anchor, whose anti-Trump politics were never particularly subtle.

Wallace calls it quits

Wallace told viewers during his final broadcast of Fox News Sunday that he was sad to be moving on, but excited about a new “adventure” at CNN that will take him “beyond politics.”

“After 18 years, this is my final Fox News Sunday,” Wallace said, according to the Examiner. “It is the last time, and I say this with real sadness, we will meet like this.”

“I want to try something new, to go beyond politics, to all the things I’m interested in,” Wallace added. “I’m ready for a new adventure, and I hope you’ll check it out.”

Wallace is the son of journalist Mike Wallace and has been in journalism for 50 years. According to CBS News, he previously worked at ABC and NBC for joining Fox in 2003.

In a separate statement, Wallace said he was “thrilled” to be joining CNN+, the vehemently anti-Trump outlet’s new streaming service.

Fox, CNN laud anti-Trump journo

CNN boss Jeff Zucker showered praise on Wallace, calling him “as fine a journalist as there is in our business,” according to CBS. Fox News said they were “extremely proud of our journalism and the stellar team that Chris Wallace was a part of for 18 years.”

Toward the end of his tenure, Wallace alienated many Fox News viewers with his barely concealed contempt for Donald Trump. The anchor was accused by Trump and many conservatives of protecting Joe Biden during the first presidential debate between Biden and Trump last year, which Wallace moderated.

In light of Wallace’s career news, past comments from President Trump about the polarizing anchor seem prescient.

“Why does Fox News keep Chris Wallace?” Trump wrote in a statement last June, according to Newsmax. “His ratings are terrible, he’s ‘almost’ radical left, he was acknowledged to have failed badly as a presidential debate moderator (except for Biden who he totally protected!), and so much else. Usually, these are not the qualities of a long-term stay!”

Wallace may be respected by the Trump-hating media, but it is doubtful he will be missed by many conservatives. He’ll fit right in at his new job.
